Truman Elementary teachers and students share their writing based on the book The Best Part of Me by Wendy Ewald at their Literacy Night.
Truman Family Literacy Night 2015 was amazing! Our wonderful literacy committee worked hard to coordinate the day and evening events of March 5th. We were fortunate to have two Utah authors come to our school to share their wisdom and love of writing with our staff and students. New author, J.A. Trevor, Only Gingers Can Be Witches! and Kristyn Crow, Skeleton Cat!
Each grade level team provided an activity for families to explore and create in the gym. Families could choose between eight different literacy related activities like Sight Word Hunt, Bookmaking, Mad Libs, Comprehension Cootie Catchers and more. Kindergarten did a great job with storytelling as they acted out the story of The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Dewalt.
Every K-6 student and staff member participated in a school wide writing project entitled, Best Part of Me. This activity was inspired by the book The Best Part of Me by Wendy Ewald. Each Truman Thunderbird wrote about the best part of themselves and displayed it throughout the hallways of our school. Families enjoyed reading the writing during literacy night.
It was so much fun to see the families enjoy an evening of literacy and to hear the amazing conversations they had with their kids. They were able to celebrate their children as readers and writers. We were all excited to give away so many books and family friendly activities to the kids and families of our great community. We can’t wait for next year!
